Yeah... I have one of those too. They look kind of sad this time of year.

I've been MIA for a couple of months... my camera sits idle for long periods during winter. I just can't get motivated this season. Tonight was an exception, took a drive over to the local reservoir to see if the snow geese were here yet. The answer is yes, they are. And an amazing sunset as well. I was so happy when they decided to take off and fly right through the sunset as I was shooting across the lake.

I went out on assignment today to find some Circles. Fun topic, one of my all-time favorites. Weathered fence post: Manual railroad crossing - no lights or gates or bells. We have a lot of them around here. I find the "Yield" sign in the background to be a bit humorous. Wonder if this would work in my yard?

Back to comment on this, Rick. Love the color and lighting. I have Lightroom to thank for some of that. It has some of the most amazing and easy to use tools for general image development. Here is the side by side with RAW and finished image.

The grassy lane that lies In Between the mighty trunks of these stately trees. (Actually it's a berm that is part of an extensive flooding management dike/diversion system that dates from when this area was newly settled, before the South Platte was dammed and diverted until it's a rare season that the spring runoff manages to flood this high any more. When European settlers first came into this region, there no trees along the river at all. But the name of the area is Tamarack Ranch Wildlife Area... I can draw a conclusion that maybe those first ranchers also planted the trees, but I have no facts to back up that assertion.

I hope that the repeating forms of these geese launching from the water qualifies - it seems like a pattern. I guess the ripples in the water are a pattern too if I need more justification (j/k). I was out last evening, with just a single lens and no particular subject in mind. I was pleased just to find anything close to the topic for this week. The fact that it makes a pretty good image is just icing.

Missed this one.... I've been derelict. Trying to find landscapes in a land that can't let go of winter. A chaotic woodland scene along the South Platte River.

A stream cutting Diagonally across a wintery panorama that I ran across today on my drive. (Actually, when I look closely, this photo has more diagonals than I could ever hope to count.)

My front door window, NEWly coated with an early morning freezing rain, appears to have a face. (And it's a bit disconcerting the way that it seems to be looking at me)

Here is my original I am not a fan of anything in the background that is not straight... If you can keep the camera level, those lines will tend to stay vertical much better. Depending on the lens, you may still see some pincushioning or other distortion, but you can greatly reduce or eliminate distorted verticals by making sure that the camera is not tilted forward or back. I've found that I can do better even if I have to shoot wider and then crop for desired framing. I habitually shoot wider than I think I need just to ensure that I have enough of what I wanted to survive any subsequent editing.
