Sorry to bother you again, but do you remember what that trick was to do text without having to do the text box? There really is no trick. It's actually more straightforward than using a text box. Major, You mis-understood what I was saying.... What I said just previous to that was: "Do not be surprised if (someday in the future) I come back and ask what the trick was...." Sorry! I hope you understand now that I have a very short memory!

Charles,
Just trying to put it all together . . .
First of all, I agree with Craig. There is no trick and it is more straightforward than using a Text Box. Elements gives you these two options.
- If you want your text neatly aligned on the left edge, with even spacing between the text lines, and all the text lines in one single layer, . . . use the Return key. - If left-edge alignment doesn't matter and/or if even spacing between the text lines doesn't matter, and you want each text line on a separate layer, use the Commit button (green check mark)
NOTE:
When you use the second option (Commit button), left-edge alignment and even spacing between the text lines will be dependent on where you click to start typing. All Elements will do is follow your "orders". On the other hand, when you use the first option (Return key), Elements automatically aligns your text on the left edge and creates even spacing between your text lines.
I believe the above pretty much addresses the problem described in your OP.
I am trying to add a lot of text to a photo of a picture I scanned from a calendar. There are several lines, and I have never learned how to do this in Elements properly to make the lines appear even, and each new line starting the same distance from the left edge. How is this done? I did this starting a new text with each new line...it seems there has to be a better way!
As to the issue of remembering all of this . . . I would suggest copying/pasting this post onto a word-processing document or taking a screen shot of it. In this way, you will have it handy if the need arises.
