There is some text online from a public domain book which I wish to copy and paste into an image of a scroll. Can I do this? How? I tried Cut and Paste but no success. Good to see this Forum! Thanks.

Hi penovice, welcome to PSE&M!
Try this.
Copy/Paste the text into a Word document. Then, you can bring the text into Elements. Just keep in mind that this text copy/paste technique has some limitations. Another program’s font won’t copy into Elements; it will paste itself as the last font you used in Elements. Here is some more information about this technique.

Is this the sort of thing you are wanting? 1. I first copied Sepiana's post, then pasted it into Word on a Postcard sized landscape document. I changed the text to various fonts then saved as pdf. 2. I then opened PSE (v12), Ctrl+N for a blank file, size 8" width, 6" height, 300 p/cm 3. File -> Place, locate your pdf and OK It's then on it's own layer. Because of using 'Place', it's a Smart Object and therefore will not deteriorate with lots of resizing. You can resize, skew or whatever, as desired. Hopefully, someone will correct me if I've given you wrong information re the Smart bit, but that's my understanding. So, I don't know if this will help you. It's just my tuppence worth

I would advise against bringing text into Elements via the File/Place command; your text will come in as a Smart Object and not as a Text layer. Elements will see your text as a bunch of regular pixels instead of text. This can hinder the editing of the text if any is needed. On the other hand, if you use the Copy/Paste command, your text will come in as a Text layer. This means that you will be able to change the font as well the font's color and size (and even apply layer styles if you want to).

Thanks for the input, Sepiana. As you know, I'm still very inexperienced so, happy to learn and understand more.
I understood penovice couldn't copy/paste into Elements for some reason, hence my suggestion
I thought it would be beneficial to have it as Smart Object, so that it could be resized umpteen times without degrading it. I hadn't realised it was possible to edit text if copy/paste'd into Elements.
What about if you put into Elements and then drag it into a new file? How would that behave.

Thanks for the quick and informative replies. But I cannot get it to work. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Here are my steps, in detail. 1. From PagePlus X7 I Opened a jpeg of a scroll that I have on my computer. 2. I went online, found the text I wanted on a website, Ctrl-A to Select all, Ctrl-C to copy to my clipboard. 3. I opened my word processor (not MS Word; Libre Writer instead, but I don't think that should matter.) Ctrl-V pasted the desired text. Saved the document. Pressed Ctrl-A to select the text again, Ctrl-C copied it to my clipboard. 4. Switched to PagePlus X7, clicked on the Text tool, drew a box. Clicked Ctrl-V, nothing. Drew a text box again, this time clicked on the green confirmation check box. The text box disappeared as soon as I did that. Drew it again, this time placed my cursor inside and left clicked, box went away, nothing. 5. I drew a text box again, right clicked on it, and then clicked on Bring to Front, Send to Back, various combinations of clicking Ctrl-V before and after Bring to Front etc. Nothing. I notice that now I have 5 or 6 Text layers, all identical, each showing the first few words of the text that I want to paste onto the image. But I cannot drag the Text layer onto the Background. I know, I know, I'm doing something stupid, or not doing something that I should, but I've tried the above with slight variations (in case I'm doing it wrong but think I'm doing it right) with no success. I don't want to copy and paste a document onto my scroll, only the text. Maybe that's impossible? Thank you all once again for your help and patience.

I'm a little confused. Your thread title indicates you want to import text into PSE 13, but your message keeps referencing PagePlus X7, whatever that is.
I know nothing about the latter, but if you're using PSE13 , the steps you're describing should work. Copy the text with control-C, draw a text box in PSE13, the hit control-V. A thought - is your text color set to white by mistake?

Hang on, I'm totally confused regarding what you are doing.
MM - PagePlus is a Serif product for Desktop Publishing. X7 is the version
penovice, Are you working in PagePlus or Photoshop Elements? PagePlus is Desktop Publishing and Photoshop Elements is photo editing, as is PhotoPlus. You might be lucky if someone happens to use PagePlus but this is mainly Photoshop/Elements forum, not Desktop Publishing.
I wasn't aware that PagePlus now had layers, hence I wonder if you are meaning PSE rather than PP? Copy/pasting into PSE file WILL create it's own layer.
As MajorMajor suggested, check what colour your text is on the layer - maybe it's the same colour as the background.
Maybe you could clarify what program you are hoping we can help you with?

Yes, it is confusing. And yes, for this project, I'm using both. And I made some typos in my last post. Remove PagePlus X7 and replace with PSE 13. I just tried it again, as described above, and no luck. I changed my Text color, it's red, the scroll (Background) is light brown. I tried white and yellow as well. I don't get it. I'm obviously bringing the text into PSE, because it shows up as a layer in the Layers panel. The bounding box (not sure that's the right terminology) shows up when I click on the Horizontal Text tool and draw a rectangle. I'm going to try some text from another source next. [5 mins later-still no go] OK, so I opened a blank file in PSE, went through the steps, perfect. (everything went as it should. Text printed.) Next, found a different clip art scroll, went through the steps, perfect. Opened the original scroll clip art, which is saved as a jpeg image, went through the steps.....nothing. So, the only thing I can think of is that there is something peculiar about that image. It says it is a .jpeg, but it will not let me paste any text on top of it. Sorry about my mistake re PagePlus, thankfully I do know the difference, I just made an error when typing. Chalk it up to a tiny brain. Thank you all again, I think the best thing to do is use a different scroll instead of chasing this rabbit down its hole. If I was 50 years younger I would absolutely go on that chase, but not now. Thanks again.

Hi Cats4Jan As far as I understand it, penovice has solved this issue. He discovered the jpg he was using must have a 'glitch' and, when trying another alternative jpg, it worked perfectly. I found it hard to read the block of text though

Using Elements is a continuous learning experience. I myself am still learning new things about Elements.
Yes, you are absolutely correct. The advantage of working with a Smart Object is that you can resize it to any size without any problem. But, in this case, the ability to have an editable text outweighs the benefits of a Smart Object.
Your last suggestion -- to bring the text into Elements as a Smart Object and then drag it into a new file works. But why make the process more convoluted? You will need one file for the Smart Object and then another one to move the Smart Object onto. The simpler the better (especially if someone is a new user of Elements).

Squirrel2014, your method worked. Maybe you will find a little something extra in your pay envelope next week (I hope so!) After a good night's sleep, I tried again this morning, from scratch. Turned on computer, etc. opened PSE13, opened the Scroll.jpg, found my text, Ctrl-C, drew a Text box, clicked in it, then Ctrl-V, no luck. Tried several variations in the sequence (too boring and tedious to document), no luck. Tried Ctrl Click on the Text T in the layers panel. Zip. Tried with another random piece of scroll clip art, worked like a champ the first time. Kind of intuitive. So Squirrel2014, you found a great workaround for this problem I'm encountering. Thank you and thanks again to all who helped me. This is a great forum. I'll be happy to send the "offending" scroll file, or the URL of the source, to anyone who wants to see if they can duplicate my problems. Or I can send screen shots. But it's probably just me, some obvious thing that I'm doing wrong. Squirrel2014, Sepiana, cats4jan, Major Major, thank you again. Everyone have a great day. I'm going to practice some card magic for a while and clear my tiny brain.

Don't understand the complicated work arounds mentioned. Have you tried a text box? I'm not on the desktop right now, but as I remember it, the problem was always the need to first make a text box for copy/paste to work. *copy text from site *go to your project and grab the text tool *draw out a text box *click inside the text box - right click and choose "paste" Janice,
Your instructions work (and they have one less step than the ones in the link I posted). You are absolutely correct. The key to success is drawing the text box before you paste the text. I will "archive" the instructions in that link and use yours from now on. You taught me something new. Thanks! Living and learning!

Um, that's what I suggested back on the first page of this thread.
